Modern origins of Libertarianism

Brink Lindsey of Reason magazine talks about the interesting mix of the youth rebellion and later conservative resurgence gave birth to libertarianism as we know it.

While I disagree libertarianism draws itself just from the two movements, it’s still a good piece of history.

Lindsey keenly notes that the two ideologies are mystical: the drug counter-culture vs. ‘born-again’ Christianity; the latter arriving as the same pendulum swang backwards; one form of (irrational) mysticism replaced by another. I wonder if we can see another kind of revolution, this time of the rational kind.

Read and then post your thoughts:
The Aquarians and the Evangelicals
How left-wing hippies and right-wing fundamentalists created a libertarian America.

In conclusion, can rationalists create a mythology of their own?
